Project Details:

Carrying out the Ames Taping and Jointing in the General Wards 1, 2 and 3 and the Women’s and children’s hospital before completing the decoration works

Process:

We sealed the plasterboard surfaces and carried out the Ames Taping and jointing to all walls and ceiling areas and bulkheads this work was then quality checked before we applied the mist coat and then we completed a secondary quality check and then signed off the taping and jointing as complete. We then moved forward with the final coats applied by airless spray, brush and roller. We also applied a dust sealer to the server rooms and prepared all of the plant room floors by vacuum controlled diamond grinding before applying an anti-slip 2 pack epoxy coating system including, picking out of the designated walkways.

Challenges:

The weather was a challenge as the building was not weather proofed and as a result there was a lot of mould growth to begin with so the job was set back considerably.

Materials were required to be stored in a controlled way by locking in a secure area.

Achievements:

As a result of our high standard of work we were asked to supply the contractor with an aftercare team of up to 8 operatives to carry out touch up and general extra works. We have also secured further work on the project for NHS Dumfries and Galloway direct as per the attached client statement

Suppliers:

PPG Durable Matt, Microbarr Matt & Acrylic Durable Eggshell

Comments from the judging panel of the Painting and Decorating Association Premier Trophy awards:

This was a complex and difficult project to organise as work had to start while building was still taking place. Working with other trades was an absolute necessity to deliver the final project to the quality desired.

the contractor has achieved a very good finish on this project with very good, blemish-free wall finishes and excellent cutting in.

The working relationship with the client was very good and the contractor met and surpassed expectations. The client was happy with the end result and work achieved was to a high standard.

“Story Decorating were responsible for all the painting and decorating of the new residences at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. We found their work to be of an excellent standard. The staff were also very accommodating and willing. Consequently we have Story to carry out further painting in connection with our arts strategy.”
