The existing paint on the steelwork in the hangar was identified as containing lead so needed to be carefully stripped back to metal prior to the new paint system being applied.
We used a low-VOC paint removal method which involved a chemical paste which did not give off fumes. The resulting material produced was easy to control and was removed from site by a specialist waste disposal company.
We then applied a protective aluminium primer, hi-build epoxy undercoat followed by 2-pack gloss top coats.
When required, work was undertaken using mobile elevating work platforms to a height of up to 12 metres
Safety aspects of working on a live airfield e.g. being escorted across the runway to the site.
The remote location of the job meant that we had delays in materials being delivered to site by suppliers.
The work took place during the popular summer months so finding suitable accommodation was difficult at times.
Materials were required to be stored in a controlled way by locking in a secure area.
We were the highest-ranking subcontractor on site for Health & Safety performance
Our supervisor attended daily site meetings to ensure good communication and coordination between other trades on site.
